The Ritz Cinema Anniversary

Blog image

Celebrations are in order for The Ritz Cinema, Thirsk, entering its 30th year as a volunteer run cinema This will be recognised with events and activities during the year.

The Ritz opened as a volunteer staffed cinema under the management of Thirsk Town Council in March 1995, opening with queues down the street and showings of The Lion King. After a year the volunteers took over full management, and are still operational.

For the first time we will be taking part in Event Cinema and will be showing the hit West End musical SIX on Fri 11 Apr and Sat 12 Apr. Recorded live at the Vaudeville Theatre in London with the original cast, this production tells the story of Henry VIII’s six wives in 21st century pop-inspired music. This is a special event and normal prices and conditions do not apply. Tickets are £12 Adult, Child under 15 £10. Book online (£1 booking fee) or buy on the door.

Other Events will include opening in September for the national Heritage Open Days, when guided tours will provide the opportunity to see hidden areas of the cinema.
